It's official! I am in the Christmas spirit! Sure, there is no snow on the ground and my windows are still open at night. Sure, Thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet and I still have Christmas shopping to do. Nonetheless, I am ready. Rebecca also won Best Female Artist of 2007 from Christianitytoday.com-her fifth consecutive year to be given this honor. As one can tell from my previous blog reviews, I love heart-felt movies that are family friendly. When I watch a movie, I would like to be moved, in a positive way. I'm happy to tell my readers about another one of those great movies. Hallmark has a reputation for reliable and quality family-friendly tv programs and movies. Most recently they released The Shunning. Here is a synopsis:
"Before she succumbs to cancer, the dying wish of Laura Mayfield-Bennett is to be reunited with the daughter she never knew. Unfortunately, that daughter, Katie Lapp, is a member of the Amish order. Katie is about to be married, but uneasy about the path ahead. Now she discovers the secret her parents have kept from her: she's adopted. The film is based on the celebrated first novel of the best-selling "The Heritage of Lancaster County" book series from author Beverly Lewis. Stars Danielle Panabaker & Sherry Stringfield."
The author, Beverly Lewis, was born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country and is The New York Times bestselling author of more than eighty books. Her stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide. A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage has inspired Lewis to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with "The Shunning," which has sold more than one million copies. In 2007, Lewis' "The Brethren" was honored with a Christy Award. The acting in this movie is fabulous as well as the story-line. For a story about an Amish family, it is intriguing and held my attention. The plot and acting was very believable and it was interesting to have a peek into the Amish culture. There were intense moments, moments of pure innocence, touching moments, moments that provoked sympathy, and moments of celebration. To summarize, it was a dynamic, quality movie which I highly enjoyed and would recommend to anybody.

As I was blessed to receive and review this movie, so shall a reader.

Previously I have reviewed flipflop wines and have been 100% satisfied. They are a fairly new brand and have very affordable prices, without sacrificing taste. This time I had the opportunity to taste the Moscato.
Moscato is a white wine, on the sweeter side (but not dessert-sweet), and less dry than other wines. These grapes are harvested in California and are most often recommended for dining with white courses (chicken, lean pork, etc.) though I maintain that whatever tastes good to you is what you should do (taste great with a steak? have it with a steak!). Like most white wines, it is most certainly best served chilled.
This wine was fantastic. It was smooth, light, and crisp. It was incredibly refreshing after a long day of work. This is a perfect summer wine for picnics, barbeques, bonfires, etc. It had light citrus flavors and even lighter floral notes to ensure that they aren't overwhelming. The flavors all blended to ensure a smooth finish.
I'm not the only one who is a fan of this wine. In 2010 the flipflop Moscato earned Double Gold at the 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest, most influential international wine competition in America. In addition, none other than Wine Enthusiast Magazine gave flipflop Moscato a “Best Buy” in the June issue of the magazine. I would certainly agree!

Theo is an old man who teaches his mice friend, Belfry and Luther, about the essential message of the Gospel. This particular DVD is two short cartoons (to maintain attention!) that are simple and easy to follow--perfect for people of ALL ages! The creator, Michael Joens, is certainly not a newcomer to animation. He has created productions for such companies as Milton Bradley, Hasbro, McDonald's, and Playskool. This cartoon fulfills his wish to help spread the Good News of the Gospel to children and adults everywhere. The animation was adorable, the message is vital, and the characters are easy to relate to.

Robert Pierre is an 18 year old contemporary Christian music artist from Orlando, Florida. He has been creating Praise and Worship albums since he was only 14 years old! "I'm All In" is his third album. Released July 26 of this year, Pierre co-wrote nearly all of the songs on this album. In MY mind, this is a great sign of an incredible musician. It's easy enough to perform what people give you, it's another zone of talent to be able to write as well. Especially at such a young age, I'm thoroughly impressed. What is even more exciting about this album is that in addition to Pierre, other writers include executive-producer Jason Ingram (Tenth Avenue North, Sanctus Real, Bebo Norman) and producer Matt Bronleewe (Jars of Clay, Plumb, Chris Tomlin). With that type of track record, how could this album not be a hit?


1. I'm All In: Title track of the album, I'm All In is full of energy. It makes you want to jump up and down in praise. It would be a great song to exercise to, bring into a dance club, or do aerobics to.
2. Who R U: This song is catch and upbeat but has a deeper message. It is about dedication to God, even when it becomes tough. This song would be very appealing to tweens or teeny-boppers, which is to say it's very appropriate for the younger audience.
3. Light the Way: I LOVE this song! It is motivational and is something to listen to when going through challenging times and emotions. Its message really describes so many of our situations that we go through--it's timeless and universal.
4. Maker of the Stars: Imagine you're at a dance club and the DJ is mixing something hot--you're body starts pulsing to the beat. You're hands raise and your head sways. THAT is the beginning of this song. It does mellow out a bit and turns into quite a Praise and Worship song. I could easily see this being done in church and really moving crowds into a deep moment with God. Despite it's musicality, it's a personal testimony to Pierre's powerful love for our Father, God.
5. Be Lifted Up: A wonderful ode to the awesome Jesus the Christ it makes you want to raise your hands and bask in his reverence: "Our only hope is You"
6. Stranger in this Land: I adore the message of this song:
"This world will try to shut me down / Push and shove me to the ground but I / I been covered by the blood of Christ / I am His and He is mine"
It made me wonder what Pierre had gone through in order for him to write this song. Nonetheless, I think people can relate--I know I certainly could. Even though it has a powerful message, it is still upbeat in that you can dance to it :)
7. Silent Cry: This song is a call for more peace and love in this world. It has great guitar riffs which definitely showcase Pierre's talent on the strings.
8. Sing for Joy: With lyrics such as "In the middle of it all / I will sing for joy / The joy of the Lord" , Sing for Joy claims and celebrates the support, peace, and satisfaction we have when we put our life in Jesus' hands. The song confirms that even when we're feeling down or discouraged, we can endure because of who we are in God.
9. Greater is He: The message in this song is similar--we are not alone, we can let go and let God! Pierre sings: " Nothing I face / Is greater than He " Enough said! Clear, true, and straight to the point.
10. Dead to Sin: An energetic, upbeat tune describing how Christians are different--we have a freedom in God that not everyone in this world has. I am very thankful for this song because it helped me to understand the Christian meaning of freedom. Here's what I mean:
"Now I know / I don’t need to be a certain way / Cause God is love / And he’s given me new life...I’m done conforming to sin". I don't have to dress or act the way the TV tells me too. I don't have to follow all of the trends and fall to pressure to be glamorous, promiscuous, rich, etc. I am who I am in Christ and being Godly according to the Bible is what matters. THAT is my freedom.
11. Trust in You: I think this is my favorite song on the whole album. It really touched me when I was going through some tough times. I was down and sad and it helped me to realize that God has NEVER failed me and never will. It helped me let go of my burdens and place them in the hands of Jesus. It helped me to let go emotionally and become closer to God. Musically, it is mellow but obviously powerful. "I will trust in you / You have never failed me...Show me where you’re leading and I will go / Give me faith to travel the narrow road / I don’t need the answers as long as I know / You are in control" AMEN!

One of the coolest things about flipflop wines is their commitment to bettering the world. Just this year, flipflop has dedicated profits of their wines to help 11 million children through the Soles4Souls program. There are more than 300 million children in our world without shoes. Without shoes, not only are these children highly vulnerable to parasitic diseases (such as hookworm and threadworm) and injuries but without shoes children are often unable to attend school because shoes are part of a uniform requirement. Thus far, flipfop has help put shoes on more than 100,000 feet.

The second flipflop wine I tried was the Riesling. This Riesling wasn't as sweet as I expected. The Rieslings I'm accustomed to are near dessert sweet, and this one wasn't. Thus, it helps to know what you like when you are looking to enjoy a Riesling. If you are one who really enjoys the light, syrupy sweetness of a Riesling, this one might not be your choice. On the other hand, if you're often turned off by the full sweetness of a Riesling, you might give this a try and see if you've finally found a Riesling you'll enjoy.

One thing I must stress about Riesling, especially this one, is that it MUST be served chilled! Don't worry about any perfect temperature (45-50 degrees F), just ensure that it has been refridgerated for approximately 2 – 3 hours before serving and make sure that it stays chilled (if you can't keep it in the fridge, put it on ice). Drinking Riesling without chilling it will rob you of the true flavors and smells that emerge when it is cool. In summary, it just won't taste nearly as good room temperature as it would chilled.

flipflop Riesling has the flavors of peaches and apricots and melons and it is fruit forward. I didn't notice any floral undertones, which is great because I don't prefer that in my Rieslings. There was a hint of spice in my nose which was an excellent touch. This Riesling could easily be paired with any pork or chicken dish—simple or complex.

One last interesting note about this wine is that it's a Washington wine. The Northwestern United States are moving forward in their vineyards and wine making. I find it very exciting that the United States is coming along when it comes to wine. Not only are we competing with the traditional wine areas such as France and Italy, we are also creating new flavors and dimensions for wines.

Flip Flop Wines! Hurray!

Most of you don't know that I'm a wine-o. I started my love affair with wine at the end of college (when keggers and wops became inappropriate). I was lucky enough to be contacted by flipflop Wines to give these new wines a go. I'm doing these reviews in increments as to really absorb (pun intended) the flavors and experiences of each of the wines. Due to the ridiculous heat that the Midwest has been experiencing, I started with a cool glass of Pinot Grigio. The strongest opinion I can tell everyone about this wine is this:

If you like pinot grigio: you will love this wine!

The wine itself is young but the vitner has patened a recipe that does not stray one bit from a very original Pinot Grigio. It has a very classic flavor of a Pinot Grigio. Oftentimes you can tell if a P.G. doesn't have a dedicated vitner—the taste is very young, too sweet, not the right level of dryness. It's as if they think that drinkers will enjoy anything sweet and white, which is not necessarily true. A good P.G. will be slightly sweet and have undertones of lightly sugared citrus with, oftentimes, only an afterthought of floral (which makes it such a hit with non-experiences wine drinkers—floral often turns off drinkers). The flipflop Pinot Grigio has these clean, lightly sweetened citrus flavors and uses other white fruits like pear to create a full-bodied, balanced glass.

Let me say it again, if you are a wine drinker that likes Pinot Grigio, you are GUARANTEED to enjoy this bottle of wine.

I was asked by The Confluence to review The Zaca Patch. It is a square patch that you place on a certain part of the body (shoulder, arm, lower back, etc.) when you begin drinking alcohol for the evening (morning?). You're instructed to leave it on for 24 hours after you begin drinking and it claims to help ward off hangover symptoms.

I have a friend, we'll call Jordan, who never gets hangovers no matter how much he drinks. He wakes up chipper as a beaver while I'm moaning on his couch (because drunk driving is BAD!) with a headache, nausea, and dizziness. Needless to say, I was not only incredibly interested but eager and excited to try this product.

Test Trial #1: Started drinking at 6 pm—patch is on. Beer, beer, mixed drink, beer, shot, mixed drink, shot, beer, beer.

GUESS WHAT?

I felt fine in the morning!

Now, do note that I slept in until about 10:30 am, but that's what I usually do on the weekends anyhow.

I forgot to mention that I had a friend from out of town, we'll call him Ian, who also tried the patch. He drank more than I did and also felt that the patch helped his hangover symptoms. In fact, he said he didn't feel any symptoms. HOW COOL!

So, what in the world is this magic patch? NATURAL, and organic ingredients including:

Sandy Alemian is an inspirational speaker, author, teacher, and healer. She recently graced me with her book “What was God Thinking?!” The making of this book was very neat. It is actually, in print version, her personal dialogues with God. The book reads as a letter, or conversation, between two persons—certainly not the traditional form or book narrative. Alemian felt Divinely compelled to share the messages she received with the rest of the world.

First, I must state that this book is not religious (in the colloquial sense of the word), preachy, nor does it adhere to any particular denomination. Indeed, this book is generally spiritually; some might call it New Age. Thus, if you identify yourself as a spiritual, but not religious person, this book will speak to you. If you are a legalistic, fundamentalist Christian, this book will probably feel like blasphemy to you.

Though, I also must say, that at times I had to calm myself in order to take the dialogue seriously. When Alemian responds to God with “LOL” or when God tells Alemian to “Go make your chai” I had the initial response to roll my eyes, simply because this is not what I'm used to in Divine narratives. HOWEVER, there were several beautiful, universal messages that really resonated with me. Let's explore those messages.

1. God = Love

2. Start every day with connection to God

3. God's love and peace is enough to fulfill us, but most often we don't seek it out and allow it to fill us

4. God is always present and always available to us if we seek Him (and it's free!)

5. Here is a direct quote from the book (I couldn't possibly say it better myself):

   1. “(E)ternal, ageless beauty. . .involves releasing the expectation that you need to look a certain way to be loved and to love. You know people who are beautiful on the outside, but hold something so different on the inside that no outer beauty could make up for it. . .It all goes back to where one is willing to put their energy and attention. Inner beauty, inner peacefulness, inner calm helps the outer more than you realize.” (p. 68). Amen!

I'd like to put in my two cents about a great product/company.

I have gotten two orders from Wholesale Keychains and I was 100% impressed and satisfied. I ordered two sets of the Broken Heart Keychain for two of my friends for their weddings. I had each engraved with their name for the couple to exchange with each other. I have given the first one away, the next one next month. The first couple LOVED it!
